Director Joss Whedon Reveals His Approach For THE AVENGERS Sequel

With short months away from the highly-anticipated superheroes ensemble THE AVENGER kicking off the official summer 2012 movie season, director Joss Whedon already has a few ideas about what he would like to do in the sequel.

So will the sequel will be bigger than the first movie? Surprisingly, his answer is a complete opposite. Here's what he had to say below.

By not trying to. By being smaller. More personal, more painful. By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself. I want to know what makes them tick, what makes them flawed, what makes them fight - and ultimately, what makes them awesome. I go to these movies for those moments when the heroes define themselves, either through action or deliciously overwritten speeches.

THE AVENGERS 2 will be more character-driven drama? Hmm, that would be interesting to look forward to.

RAMBO 5 Will Sees The Title Character Gets Killed?

Not long ago, Sylvester Stallone is supposed to deliver his final RAMBO series titled as RAMBO V: SAVAGE HUNT but ever since then, the project has been stalled. However, Stallone remains optimistic that he still wants to do one last RAMBO movie before hanging up his iconic character for good. In fact he has a definitive idea what is he going to deliver in RAMBO 5. Here's what he had to say below.

I'm dying to do another Rambo. He's in Arizona on the border. It will involve him going into Mexico. I don't think Rambo likes Mexicans.

That's not all, Stallone also planned to put his iconic character dying off at the end as well. Interesting.

Haywire 2012 Hollywood Movie Review & Rating (1/5)

RATING: 1/5

On paper, Steven Soderbergh's first foray into action-movie territory is certainly too good to give this a miss -- HAYWIRE stars former MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano (who was best known in TV's reality show called American Gladiators) and favors clean-cut fight choreography unlike most like-minded movies (read: shaky-cam) shown these days. Unfortunately, what you have read or seen in the promotional materials that have been heavily advertised all this while, isn't exactly the kind of straightforward action-packed extravaganza you would hope for. Instead HAYWIRE is an artistic farce disguised as a B-grade action wannabe and worst of all, it's unbelievably boring.

At the beginning of the movie, we see Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) entering a rural diner in wintry upstate New York and have a cup of coffee. Not long after, a man she knew from her past named Aaron (Channing Tatum) arrives and sits at her table. They exchanged a few words, which are mostly cryptic talks. All of the sudden, they fight against each other but Mallory manages to beat the crap out of Aaron and goes on the run with a 19-year-old diner customer Scott (Michael Angarano) and his car. On the way along the road as far away as possible, Mallory begins to expose her backstory related to the dangerous situation she's currently facing now.

During the extended flashback, we learn that Mallory is a covert operative privately contracted by the government where she is sent on a mission that takes from Barcelona to Dublin. She is subsequently gets double-crossed by lots of people she comes to contact with -- including her boss Kenneth (Ewan McGregor), Rodrigo (Antonio Banderas) - the man responsible for the mission set-up; her partner Paul (Michael Fassbender) and Colbenz (Michael Douglas), an American diplomat who hired Kenneth's company. She ends up on her own and the only person she can trust is her father (Bill Paxton), a successful author and retired Marine.

As an action movie, HAYWIRE feels oddly disconnected. Sure, Soderbergh's camerawork is admirable enough to keep his shot still and focused. He favors widescreen angle so the viewers can witness properly what is going on during the fight sequence. Unfortunately, most of the action scenes are sorely lack of urgency. For instance, the whole Barcelona rescue mission scene is needlessly overshadowed by annoying black-and-white cutaways and muffled gunfire that totally taken away all the possible kinetic flair it supposes to have at the first place. Even the fight scene feels somewhat too stagy and also way too short-lived to last a satisfying experience for any action fans. Perhaps the biggest problem here is the way how Soderbergh casually handles the action scene in such laidback direction that doesn't really gel together. Only the highly-publicized fight scene between Gina Carano and Michael Fassbender at the hotel room stands out the most.

As for the plot, Lem Dobbs's script is needlessly convoluted. For all the playful flashbacks and double-crosses which zigzag throughout the movie, the entire story is simply uninteresting to hook the viewers. Even the presence of many A-list ensemble are all criminally underutilized. As for Gina Carano's acting debut, she is certainly has the screen presence to make her the next female action star to look for. But for now, her character here is totally lackluster with flat line delivery and equally wooden expression it's really hard to root for her.

Considering such title like HAYWIRE, the entire movie is terribly subdued it feels more like a failed experimental exercise in combining action-movie genre and indie sensibility without even bother to make everything as interesting as possible. Adding further insult is the anticlimactic third-act which totally wrecks the movie out of proportion -- a lazily-constructed fight scene set in a beach house which is so poorly lit it's difficult to see what is going on, and the lame final confrontation between Gina Carano and Ewan McGregor at the beach. In the meantime, David Holmes's smooth-jazz score does have its catchy moments, even though there are times it wears out the kinetic mood of the supposedly intense action scene. What a colossal misfire.

Act of Valor 2012 Hollywood Movie Review & Rating (2/5)

RATING: 2/5

Originally conceived as a short documentary project produced back in 2007 on Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman before it eventually grew into a cinematic movie, Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh's ACT OF VALOR (making their feature-length debut) is no doubt something to look forward to. Among the highly publicized and greatest hook of this would-be potential blockbuster is none others than casting actual active-duty Navy SEALs as lead roles -- the first of its kind ever seen in Hollywood movie. Unfortunately, this is as far as the effective gimmick can go -- ACT OF VALOR may have been well-intended but the movie is sadly misses its target due to flimsy script and bad acting.

The movie begins with a brief narrative by one of the SEALs named Dave (who only goes by his first name, as well as everyone in the unit does to protect their real identity) explaining about heroism and brotherhood he spends time working with his fellow members including his leader Lt. Rorke, Sonny, Weimy, Ray, Ajay, Mikey and top interrogator Van O.

Their first mission sees them transported into Central America to rescue a captured CIA agent named Morales (Roselyn Sanchez), who is earlier abducted in Costa Rica during her pursuit of international smuggling kingpin Christo (Alex Veadov). After rescued Morales successfully, they discover that the mastermind behind the abduction and the earlier terrorist bombing attack on an American school which also killed a U.S. ambassador in the Philippines, are orchestrated by a smuggler named Christo (Alex Veadov) and a Islamic extremist named Karimov (Dimiter Marinov). Both of them eventually joined forces to transport 18 suicide bombers in strategic locations across the United States, by wearing a specially-made vest which contain explosive devices. Their goal is to kill thousands of people and create a world economic havoc.

The biggest problem about ACT OF VALOR is Kurt Johnstad's (300) terribly incoherent script. The entire movie is stuffed with lots of painful cliches, while every individual scene feels like they are clumsily slapped together without even bother to develop the storyline in an efficient way. The characters, in the meantime, are thinly-drawn stereotypes. While casting Navy SEALs as lead actors is a bold move, it hardly matters anyway since they lacked the necessary acting chops to make them least memorable. Even the involvement of real actors here (especially the villains) are strictly one-dimensional caricatures you often seen in any B-grade action flicks.

The only saving grace here is the action sequence. Even so, they are not particularly as memorable as the aggressive marketing campaign suggested at the first place. Despite the inclusion of some very impressive military hardware and real bullet usages, most of the action scenes are favored over shaky camerawork (shot digitally on the Canon 5D Mark II by Shane Hurlbut) for the sake to evoke gritty realism. Not surprisingly some of the scenes are difficult to understand what is going on in the screen, especially with all the rapid-fire and messy editing involved.

While ACT OF VALOR does have its moment of visceral thrills, the movie is overall a disappointment.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close Movie Review ( 4 / 5 )

Cast: Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Horn, Max Von Sydow,
Direction: Stephen Daldry
Genre: Drama
Duration: 2 hours 10 minutes
Avg Rating: (4/5)

Story: A young boy finds a key after his father's death in 9/11. His endeavour to find its lock transforms his life

Movie Review: A thick, dark smoke hangs over Oskar Schell's (Thomas Horn) young heart since his father Thomas ( Tom Hanks) died in the WTC attack. He bonded with his father and hates his mother. "I wish you were in the building instead of him," Oskar tells his mom. And he feels that the path to redemption could lie in a yellow key that one day he accidentally stumbles upon. The key was kept in an envelope in a blue vase and addressed to someone named Black. And the boy, both articulate and sensitive, makes it his mission to find its lock.

But in a city of over 400 listed Blacks, that's not easy. The movie takes Oskar to different people and places in the city: the Afro-American woman trapped in a bad marriage, the man who can't stop hugging him, the cranky woman who shoos him away. Midway in the endeavour, he makes friends with an old man who has stopped speaking by choice. It is an interesting relationship of unequals. Together they scan the city and the travels become a sort of therapy for both.

Fashioned for celluloid from a novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close proceeds languidly like food being cooked overnight on slow fire. It is about loss, coping and illumination. Slowly the story of a boy's reconciliation with his self and his mother also becomes a moving tale of a city and everyone who lived through 9/11.

A meaner editor could have trimmed director Stephen Daldry's movie by 10 minutes making it a tighter, neater work. In small roles, Hanks and Bullock are in fine fettle. So is Max Von Sydow in the role of a grandfather. But as the argumentative and intelligent kid, Thomas Horn is the movie's real spine. His journey for the key's lock is both outward and inward. And sometimes it is also magical.
