Low Budget Superhero Movie Venom Gets Chronicle Director Josh Trank

With the critical and box-office success of the low-budget superhero movie, CHRONICLE, director Josh Trank has fast becoming one of Hollywood's most promising young filmmakers at the moment. He has been favored by Fox to direct the reboot of FANTASTIC FOUR. And now Sony is negotiating with Trank to direct a spin-off from SPIDER-MAN 3 (2007), which is of course none others than the long-gestating VENOM! The villainous character of Venom was first introduced in SPIDER-MAN 3, and it was played by Topher Grace.

VENOM is supposed to begin life way back in 2008, where director Gary Ross is slated to helm the movie sometimes in 2009 but moved on to other projects ever since then. With Trank attached to direct VENOM, it would be interesting to see how can he brings his unique storytelling and visual flair he have shown remarkably well in his shoestring-budgeted CHRONICLE to a studio-budgeted VENOM sometimes in the future. In the meantime, Topher Grace is not expected to return since the movie would be looking for a new actor instead.
